Throughout this course we learned a variety of topics in the History of Gender and Health, however, the main theme that really stuck out the most for me was medical experts and the gendered roles in the medical field. We looked at health in schools and the influence and impact of school medical inspectors. In addition to other topics and themes we looked at, we discussed authorities and ideals and how this is broken down into medical experts and opinions on the topic of health. Overall, these main focuses of medical experts and gendered roles in the medical field are greatly linked to the main topic of this course. Not only did we discuss these topics and themes in class, but I also went further into my research and picked out main points and formulated my research project and my overall ePortfolio from it. My research paper on the topic of female Canadian nurses in World War One that I showcased throughout my research project and a portion of my ePortfolio made me understand more information regarding medical experts and gendered roles in the medical field. By the end of the course I came out with a more in depth knowledge on various topics in the History of Gender and Health. However, the biggest part of this course that I will be taking away was my increased knowledge of medical experts and the gendered roles in the medical field and how this overall links to gender and health in history and how it is an important topic to study and better understand.
